Book businesses

Event marketing — Campaign management — Advertising — Website design

The Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America was founded in 1949 to promote interest in rare and antiquarian books and to foster collegial relations between collectors. While the association’s members sell, buy and appraise books and printed matter, staff connect book buyers to sellers and other trade-related members. ABAA is setting the standard of antiquarian collectibles for manuscripts, modern first editions, children’s books, ephemera, maps, autographs and more antiquarian books on a vast array of topics.

Today, ABAA hosts in-person and virtual bookselling events throughout the year. Each event takes place in a different location across the country, with its own unique character and carefully considered themes. Our team works closely with ABAA to create graphics and messaging that will appeal to the target market.

ABAA goes online for the holidays

One of our latest collaborations with ABAA involved creating graphics for their Holiday Virtual Book Fair. We created digital and print graphics that felt festive and seasonal, while having a broad reach and longevity that enables it to be used for future holiday fairs.

A 55th celebration, Pasadena-style

In 2023, ABAA hosted a three-day event featuring the collections and rare treasures of booksellers from around the globe. The 55th California International Antiquarian Book Fair was a landmark, the first in-person fair coming out of COVID, so ABAA turned to LetterShop to create memorable branding that would entice the crowds into coming out in force. We created a striking look and feel by combining modern and traditional elements, which spoke to the range of collectible interests represented and celebrated the host city, Pasadena.

No asset left untreated

A comprehensive suite of event assets treated the brand with the utmost care, from event tickets and wayfinding to eye-catching signage and a variety of digital and print promotions. We developed the main typographic lockup to be flexible and modular for use across a wide variety of assets, while never sacrificing its distinct character.

Taking a strategic approach to virtual events

When events went digital in 2020, we built a virtual book fair (VBF) site so that ABAA could continue their mission of supporting member sellers. In addition to designing a custom website for virtual book fairs, we also created a kit of promotional materials for each fair that included social media graphics, print ads and a virtual postcard for booksellers to promote their participation in the fair to customers.

VBFs were an important and vital means to connect dealers and customers during the pandemic. The design and functionality Lettershop and Biblio brought to the table heightened the experience and helped make the ABAA’s platform the strongest with the most sales and participants. VBFs are here to stay and we are happy to partner with LetterShop to ensure their future success.
