Honey & Wax

Book Businesses

Brand — Website — Advertising — Print catalogs

Honey & Wax is not your grandfather’s antiquarian bookseller. Since its inception in 2011, founder and proprietor Heather O’Donnell has expressed a unique sensibility that distinguishes her company from its competitors. LetterShop is proud to have been there from the beginning.

It all started with an antique woodcut of a beehive, which we reimagined into a striking, modern logo. From there, we developed Honey & Wax’s brand and marketing materials, including a website; online ads; print campaigns (including the now-collectible annual catalogues); and stationery system, meticulously letter-pressed on fine cotton paper. With more than a decade now on the books, Honey & Wax’s brand continues to speak with a one-of-a-kind voice and unity that fosters trust among their — largely returning — customer base.

An antiquarian brand for a new generation

Inspired by the nineteenth-century epigram, “use books as bees use flowers,” Honey & Wax specializes in striking books and printed ephemera meant to be used and loved. LetterShop has taken this mission to heart, designing materials with colors that pop off the shelf. We take joy in details like typographic flourishes and the tactile materials that make Honey & Wax’s materials so delectable.

A decade of print catalogues

Early on, Heather had a vision to create a set of annual catalogues that were meticulously photographed and designed with care and precision. We brought in the incomparable photographer Matt Carr who shot the catalogue every year of its production. The throughline from year one to eleven is apparent. Honey & Wax’s clients looked forward to the delivery each fall, and unlike many catalogues, these have been saved and treasured.
